Question

My old, '80 C/10 6-banger P/U's alt. dash-light comes on.

But when we drove it home, my Buddy said it had charged his battery so I don't know?

I installed a new battery in it a couple of hours earlier and ran it until it got hot for like 30 minutes b/c I had filled it up with anti-freeze and wanted to make sure it was full after the T-Stat opened. (Had to put a rebuilt W/P on it)....

Anyway, the more I revv'ed it, the brighter the Alt. daash-light got, what gives?? But when we drove her home it went out over almost 40 miles of driving..

Should I just say to heck with it and buy a rebuilt Alt??

an 80, that's an internal regulator, right? The little 2 wire connetor is long, not fat?

If you got a voltmeter, you can check the big red wire for 13-15 volts. If you don't, pull it off and take it to an autoparts store, they can test it for ya

I second taking it to an auto parts store for testing. A bad diode may cause the gen light to glow, but still give a chage - although reduced.

if it is the diode block, the parts store will have it for like $10, it's pretty easy to replace
