I am using a CSI mini starter and I don't know how to wire it. I have the purple and yellow wire from the stock harness, however the starter seems to require only a one wire hookup (other then the cable from the battery). How do you wire the new starter? It's a good thing that you guys don't charge for advice, I would be deeply in debt. Thanks for the help

Didn't it come with directions?

The purple wire is the "start" wire. The yellow provided a full 12 volts to the coil during cranking only. If you are running an electronic ign with a full 12 to the coil you don't need to hook up the yellow. If you're still running a stock ign system I'm afraid I'm no help.

Yeah it did come with instructions, but i guess it assumes you only have one wire to deal with. I called tech support at CSI and the purple wire gets hooked up and the yellow is no longer used, just like you said. And yes you are correct these instructions apply only for a non points distributor. If you are running points I have no idea how the thing gets wired. And thanks for the help

Thinking about it a bit, if you were running points, you could probably hook the purple AND the yellow to the same terminal on the starter, and it would provide 12 to the points while cranking.

I think you are correct, but don't know for sure. It is wired up now and seems to work fine.

The yellow wire simply supplies a full 12 volts to the coil when cranking to aid and abet quick starts...esp in cold weather. Its related to having a full 12 volts at the coil and not points per se. HEIs for example have to have 12volts continuously and that wire should not be there at all or not used. Any points system would have the wire.

All this does is defeat the ignition "boost" when starting which is no biggy.
