I picked up the 68 and got the motor and tranny in. Im having trouble hooking the starter up because it is different than the 75. It is a 1 wire alternator and the 75 was a three. I hooked the battery to the big post on the starter. Now there are 5 other wires in that area. 1 red, 2 brown, 1 yellow, 1 purple(may be brown I cant tell) I have HEI so I dont need the yellow wire. But I tried every combonation of those wires I could think of and I get nothing. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

On my 68 with a newer engine.
Purple should go to the "s" side of the starter from the ignition switch.
On mine the Yellow wire comes from the coil "+" and goes to the "R" terminal on the starter. Not sure if it is needed with HEI or not. I have the coil system. Hope that helps!

I tried that. Purple to the S terminal. The yellow is not needed. I still get nothing. The fuses are fine, and the battery has a full charge. It seems to me that I need an ignition wire (red) going to the starter. I may be wrong though. Anybody know?
