Question

I'm tryig to correctly wire an electric ignition on a 68 Camaro. I have a Mallory Unilite Distributor and believe I have all the wires correct, but I'm not sure which wire to connect to from the coil. Shouldn't there be a key-on hot wire under the hood? If so, anybody know which one it is so I don't have to check every wire. Any other helpful info would be appreciated. Also, this is the first car I've really "worked" mechanically, so please be clear....

Thanks,

Paul

You need the cloth or woven covered wire that originally went to the coil (+) terminal. Don't need the yellow wire that went to coil (+). Tape and tie that back. This might help but I haven't opened it to read it.

I don't see one. I bought the car a week ago, and the guy had constant hot through a kill switch to the coil. When I removed the kill switch and connected the wires, the car would start just fine, but would not shut off. I have no idea where else to look....

Sounds like the previous owner cut into the wire I described. The wire was a resistor wire and was mentioned in the Unilite article I attached. Since it was chopped up (I assume) the wire needs to be replaced. Perhaps someone with a 68 schematic can point you to which wire in the engine harness it is. If it is cut up replace it with a standard wire and use the ballast resistor Unilite talks about.
