MSD 6AL 6420 diagrams I made for connection with Crane Xri/Pertronix

Picked up a MSD 6420 6AL on Kijiji for $50. Hope this is correct.

Before and after diagrams for my 70 Z28.

Before - stock setup with a Crane module (same red/black wire connection as Pertronix) that replaced the points/condensor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After with MSD 6AL 6420

From MSD

And I will install an inline fuse on both fat and thin red wires.

I just read that you shouldn't fuse them just in case of spikes that would break the circuit when you punch it.

Re: MSD 6AL 6420 diagrams I made for connection with Crane Xri/Pertron

I mocked it up using the IGN spot on the fuse box and tested for spark with the white wire and coil main wire close to GND and that worked then fired up the car and that worked. The tach wire only worked on the MSD connection and not at the coil. Now I have to figure where to mount it and I hate drilling holes. I've thought about Scotch™ Reclosable Fasteners but then I'd want the rubber mounts. Looking for existing holes/bolts cause I'd like to mount it on a plate so I can use the rubber mounts. Last resort will be on the firewall above the heater core.

A good spot would be under the washer bottle or under the voltage regulator but not too many holes or bolts to reuse there.

Re: MSD 6AL 6420 diagrams I made for connection with Crane Xri/Pertron

Update, good read from a electrical/circuit builder, never connect the MSD big black wire to the - batt, or other devices. When I mocked mine up
for the test, it was on my body GND.

Tom R comments,
see Post 9 http://forums.corral.net/forums/gen....ry-inside.html

Updated diagram, do not use batt - as your GND. Plus I'll be adding fuses.

Update I forgot. Tach wire did not work in the factory location on my 70 Z28.
