I have a 67 with factory tach.The original engine was a 325hp 396.It now has a 454 with HEI ignition.Tach does not work,are they compatable?Do I need a new or different tach?I want the stock looking in dash tach.Help!! [email protected]

Check your connections then.. the tac will only see a V8 not ci.

This is a pretty common problem. It can usually be fixed by installing a "filter" in the tach wire coming off the hei. It's been twenty years since I had to do one, memories figgy, but try a search, or perhaps check at msd.com, I think they have one.

as in when you first fired it with the hei, ot worked for a while, then don't work no more?

Unless the wire fell off, I think that would be bad....

any hints on removing tach from dash will be greatly appreciated.Anyone ever use Redline Gauge for repair service?
