Thumbs down

I started up my 87 camaro 305 yesterday, when it was 15 degrees out, and the temp gauge was maxed out at 800 degrees. I was wondering if i need a new thermostat?

WOW!!! Your engine is really HOT! No, seriously, sounds more like your temp sending unit is out. depending on the circuit, if you measure across it, it will either be a dead short or wide open.

The exhaust manifolds will not to 800 degrees, but it will get hot enough to melt the insulation on the sending unit wire, causing the gauge to pin...
