Light bulbs

This may sound dumb however I do not know the bulbs. I will need all the bulbs for my 68 SS/RS. My question is does the parking light have a clear or amber light bulb. I am trying to find a company who knows the amount and description of each bulb, I have ordered a complete wiring harnesses for the car. My old harness was bad over the years the prior owner used house wiring. All that is in good condition are the ends. Thanks for any help on this large matter.

Re: Light bulbs

Any local auto parts store can look up the bulbs and I'm sure they will have them all in stock. These are all very common bulbs used in a lot of cars over many years. Every bulb I've needed has been available at one of 4 different auto parts stores in my small town. Even Walmart has some of them.

You can also use google to get the bulb numbers.

Re: Light bulbs

Frank,

Heartbeat City sells a complete kit that includes all of the bulbs.

1968 Camaro & Firebird Complete Light Bulb Kit 46 Pieces OE Quality! - 1967, 1968, 1969 Camaro Parts - NOS, Rare, Reproduction Camaro Parts for your Restoration

Just a side note, the original parking light bulbs were actually a clear glass molded bulb that was painted orange to give an amber effect. All of the amber bulbs now being manufactured are molded in amber color glass. So depending how technically correct you want to be, the amber molded glass is not original OEM. The painted version pops up on e-bay all the time but be prepared to open up your wallet.

Re: Light bulbs

Here's some painted (as original) 1157A bulbs....https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-12-...ZZ~QzF&vxp=mtr

Pretty nice condition as a lot of times the paint is flaking off. The reason they went to amber colored glass.

And that is for a box of 10. Graffz, (ebay seller name) often gets more than that for just two, but of course his are genuine AC Delco.

The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone elses bills or want someone else to pay their bills.

I agree, that's why I mentioned Walmart. But sometimes I just need the bulb and buy it at the parts store and considering the price of everything else for these cars the bulbs are cheap.

Re: Light bulbs

Here is a listing of every bulb number used in a first gen Chevy Camaro:

With the number you can source them from whom ever you want.

By design up to '70, all bulbs are clear.

Everett,

I am a little confused regarding your mention that “up to ‘70 all bulbs are clear”. The ‘68 Chassis Service manual calls out 1157NA (Natural Amber) for the Parking Lamp and Directional Signal bulb which is what I believe Frank was asking about.

Are you referring to amber colored molded glass versus a clear molded glass painted orange to give an amber affect?

Re: Light bulbs

Clear glass bulb - if manf, any auto, wanted an amber color external of vehicle, amber lens on light assembly was installed, otherwise clear lens.
