Battery Recommendation

Hi All, I am looking for an aftermarket battery for my 67. Not concerned with originality. Just looking for one that will fit. Any recommendations?

Re: Battery Recommendation

You want a group 24 battery (that is the size of the case that fits in the battery box/tray you have now). The factory original group number was a 22F but they are hard to find today.

I just replaced mine with this one and then put a topper on it.

Re: Battery Recommendation

I'd pop for an AGM battery as opposed to a flooded cell lead acid model. No spillage, leakage or boil-over.

Re: Battery Recommendation

I've been using Optima AGM for years and only a few problems. You still need to trickle charge them with an AGM ready charger if you don't drive frequently. Don't use a charger not ready for AGM.

x2 Same battery replaced last year in my 69. Reason I went with it was the Napa warranty is better than most others I compared it to. BTW I found out that most but not all batteries are made by the same mfg. they are just labeled with the retailers label. During periods of non use I always keep it on a Noco Wicked Smart battery charger/maintainer.

Re: Battery Recommendation

I can't help with a battery size, but I will say, make sure the cables and cable terminations are good. If you have the cheapo 99 cent ones that clamp onto a stripped cable end, throw them away and get better cables. Also too, if you are getting new cables, get cables that are of a decent gauge. The factory put in what they could to be minimally workable and if you have more cranking compression, more advanced timing, then larger cables should help.

Re: Battery Recommendation

The majority of batteries are made by Johnson Electronics from Optima to Walmart. I have the Walmart 900 CCA in all 6 of my collector cars. They have a great warranty. FYI Johnson also makes Recarro seats and the majority of new car seats!!!!!
