I want to replace my original alternator with a 1 wire internal regulated alternator. Would someone be able to to tell me which one to get and where to buy it. It also has a gen 1 327 engine. Thanking you in advance. CJ

if you have a alternator shop close, they can change it and change the output for 1/2 the price of a new alternator

Late 1970's, early to mid 1980's 12SI, three wire (with jumper wire between BATT and terminal 2, makes it a single wire), 94 amperes Fits, looks fairly stock, works, and they are dirt cheap in wrecking yards all over the place, and auto parts stores. Citation, Pontiac J2000/J6000 and families have these alternators, and, they very rarely ever break, simple to work on, and inexpensive to "freshen up" too.

I agree with dave ray - I've always had great luck with this series, and making it a one wire is gravy.

Just curious... What is wrong with running the stock altinator with a solid state voltage regulator? Never had any issues with this set up. The only reason I could see to change is if you have many electrical upgrades. Just a thought\ question.

Nothing wrong with it, but you partially answered your own question - electrical (stereo, ignition/fuel performance) upgrades would be a good reason. I personally like the cleaner look under the hood with this conversion.
