Tips for removing signal lens?

My front turn signals arenít working, theyíre the RS ones in the valence. The park lights work. Wiring looks ok, ground is good, and Iím seeing voltage on the turn signal wire when the flasher relay kicks in.

The simple answer is the bulbs are wrong or burned out, or the socket is shot, but I canít get the $(@!? lenses off to check. Is there a trick to getting them out? Thereís a tiny gap between the lens and the housing at the side, but Iím afraid Iíll crack it if I pry too hard.

Suggestions?

Thx!

2 screws is all. I'm thinking it's just stuck to the gasket. I'd try some WD-40 or even soapy water would probably work.

Screws came out easy...lens is definitely stuck to the gasket.

Any kind of liquid in the crevice should help soften the bond. A penetrating oil would be best. Then gently pry.

BTW, the repro lenses are very good and relatively inexpensive....

Re: Tips for removing signal lens?

For the R/S bulbs it may be tough to get a good grip on them with your fingers to extract because of the very limited space inside the light housing and the bulbs depth in the socket....especially if they have been in there for a while.
So....get a 6" or longer piece of 3/4" heater hose and put about a 3/4" slit in one end and slide that over the bulb and turn. It will come out with little effort and not break the glass.

Re: Tips for removing signal lens?

I hit it with wd40 and got the RF lens off (yea!) but couldnít get the bulb out. Ended up trying a 7/8 socket wrapped in a rubber glove. Worked great, lots of grip, pushed in, twisted, twisted hard, twisted the glass right off the base. (Boo!)

The bulb base is solidly stuck in by corrosion. I shot some wd40 on it and gave up for the night, Iíll try digging it out tomorrow.

Re: Tips for removing signal lens?

I dug the bulb base out of the socket and what was left didnít look good. I punted and ordered a new pair of park lights tonight... I also learned that it has 67 park lights and grille on it. I considered getting the 68 ones, but decided to stick with the 67 ones so I could be sure it would mount the same as whatís on there.
