Re: Fuel Gauge reads past empty after Fuel Tank reinstall.
If the gauge worked before and now the sender wire is shorted or pinched to ground, when the key is turned to run, the gauge needle should be at empty or below. A shorted or pinched to ground sender wire has the gauge seeing 0 ohms which then should make it read empty or below.
To do a basic test, go into the trunk and disconnect the sender wire by the taillights. Now go inside the car and before you turn the ignition to run, the gauge per your post should be pointing at empty or below. Now turn the ignition switch to run and now the needle should swing up to full or above due to the open circuit.
Remember 0 ohms or shorted to ground sender wire should make the gauge read empty or below while an open on the sender wire should make it read full or above.
