Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

Hey guys, been trying to reach AutoMeter to help figure out my Speedometer issue, but haven't heard back yet for a while. I purchased their Ultra Light gauges, and was informed by the sales rep to purchase this "LS Install Kit" specifically done for LS Engines.

https://www.autometer.com/ls-install-kit.html

After installing, all gauges are functioning, except for the speedometer KM/H, reading is way off.. Jumps to 170KM/H while rolling at 10KMH lol.

Now I'm thinking maybe the rep forgot to inform me on another kit for a speedo? I found these other two LS kits on their website, but it only mentions Tacho & RPM. Thoughts?

https://www.autometer.com/ls-plug-pl...h-adapter.html

I'll update once I hear back from them (good to know if you ever decide to get the gauges on your LS)

Re: Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

You need to run VSS signal to the Speedo. I don't know what LS harness you used but should have a VSS wire that would run to it. You can easily run VSS wire from the T56

So I definitely need that part? Because i just got a hold of Autometer and they said no kit is needed for the speedo.

They shared this instruction, page 10-11

On the gauge there is a terminal label sig. What does the wire that is on the sig terminal hooked to on the other end?

Re: Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

Hereís what i got from autometer below. Now might be straightforward, and im just not understanding well.. but

Do they mean i press this button and hold? (Image)

And basically do the following:

1) Power off, push & hold button

2) keep holding, start car wait for pointer to hit full scale =180kmh, release

3)drive 2 miles, push & release button

4)then drive another 2 miles? .. confused from point 3 to 4

5) After 2 miles, push & release button

Did i get that correctly? Lol

Message from Autometer
ďIn order for the speedometer to read correctly in needs to be calibrated. To calibrate your electronic speedometer: With the power off, push and hold the calibration button (trip/reset button when equipped). While holding the button, start the vehicle and continue to hold the button until the pointer sweeps to full scale and stays at full scale. You may now release the button. Drive to the beginning of a pre-marked 2 mile distance and come to a stop. It does not matter how far away it is to get to this pre-marked 2 mile distance. Do NOT shut the engine off. Push and release the button. The pointer will drop to half scale. Drive the 2 mile distance. The pointer will remain at the half scale mark no matter what speed you drive. If the speedometer has a LCD display odometer, it will be normal to see it counting rapidly as it is receiving a speed signal. If you have to stop during the calibration, that is o.k.. The speedometer is simply counting pulses during this time. At the end of the 2 mile distance, come to a complete stop and push and release the button. The pointer will drop to 0 and the calibration is stored. You are now finished. Remember the accuracy of your 2 mile distance will directly affect the accuracy of your speedometerĒ

Re: Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

No

Press and hold while starting car.

At the start of the 2 mile measured distance push the button 1 time.

Drive the 2 mile measured distance. Any speed, stops and starts doesn't matter.

At end of 2 miles driven press button 1 time.

While you're driving the measured 2 miles you will see counting rapidly numbers (pulses) in the LCD display odometer. If the numbers are NOT counting up either you did not do the calibration correctly or the speedometer is not receiving a speed signal (wired wrong)

Re: Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

So I just followed the calibration instructions, and did a video below.

When measuring the 2 miles, I used google maps and set a distance of 2 miles. (hopefully it's accurate).

Once completed, the speedometer works now, and doesn't jump to 180KMH anymore. However, I wanted to test the accuracy. I used an iPhone app "Speedometer", and another app.

I don't know how reliable and accurate both apps were, but both were reading 15-20KMH higher than my actual Speedometer.

How can I test the accuracy? Should I try to restart the whole calibration?

Re: Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

A few suggestions

Drive 60 mph for 1 minute and watch odometer. Will show exactly 1 mile traveled in 1 minute.

Or have someone pace you in another car and compare speeds.

The phone apps for speed are pretty accurate so most likely your measured 2 miles was not accurate.

I would drive another vehicle 2 miles to determine start/stop marks an go through the calibration process again.

Re: Auto Meter Gauges for LS Engines

Measured a perfect 2 miles, again, this time on a long road. Did the whole calibration again... and itís still reading 10-15kmh lower than actual. (Speedometer app & waze)

In following this a little i notice the conversation going between miles and km. Curious if there is a conversion or setting thats off.
