Question 69 Headlight Switch

I replaced my headlight switch. When I pushed the shaft back in, it pushed the switch to the off position but the shaft didn't lock in. Now I can't get the shaft to pull the switch back out so I can lock it in. Since the little release button only works when the switch is pulled out, any suggestions on how to proceed? I can't seem to get anything to snag the internal switch.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 69 Headlight Switch

maybe bend a coat hanger into a really tiny hook and go fishing. have you tried depressing the button and pushing in on the knob to get it to catch? someone here said that repro knobs were too short. you didn't mention if you had one.
