Electric Fuel Pump always on?

I have a question for you guys (and please excuse my ignorance):

I bought an electric fuel pump for my SB 350 in my 69 Camaro and I was wondering if even when the key is only turned to ACC, for example to listen to the radio, should the electric fuel pump be running? Mine does and I think this is very strange since it will probably kill the battery in no time. Is this wired wrong or is this normal behavior?

Thanks in advance!
Steve

I would rewire it to a toggle switch.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump always on?

It should not. Sounds like it it wired to accessory power and it should be wired to ignition power.

I agree......wire it to ignition power only. The ACC power should not run this.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump always on?

You should also seriously think about installing a oil pressure controlled switch in the circuit to disable the pump if the oil pressure is low or the engine is off.
This would not only fix your wiring problem, but would help prevent your car from burning-up if something happens.

Here is a past thread discussing this - https://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...el+pump+wiring

Try a search for 'fuel pump wiring' and look for others.
