Angry 68 starter wires

68 Ragtop, 327 2bbl, bone stock cruiser

Last night in my haste of trying to replace the starter I broke (long story) the skinny wire that connects to the outside (passenger side) part of the solenoid. It broke right where it merges from the larger wire that connects to the inside part of the solenoid.

Could someone tell me where that wire goes to? tips on fixing it? where to find a replacement wire? etc. Unable to find much using the search feature this time. Thanks in advance.

Re: 68 starter wires

The second wire, the skinny one from the outside terminal, goes back up to the + connection on the coil. It's purpose in life is to provide a hotter spark (by bypassing the resister wire) when starting the car. Your best bet for an easy fix would be to splice in a short piece of wire and put another ring terminal on it. If you have electronic ignition and have eliminated the resister wire to the coil, this wire from the starter is no longer required.

And... here's a bigTC welcome to another 68 ragtop owner!

Re: 68 starter wires

I got back under there in the daylight and traced the wire back to the coil. Haven't gone the route of an electronic ingition.... yet. So I did what you suggested w/ a little help from my neighbor. I'm learning a lot from you guys. I have a lot to learn. The 68 wiring diagram leaves out that Yellow wire??? I got it goin though with your help. Thanks. Your car is sweet!!!! Looks pretty new to me.
