Gas Gauge Jumps Around

I have a powermaster one wire alternator on my car and when it regulates the voltage it seems to make my Autometer gas gauge jump around. The gauge is stable if the engine is off. It kind of jumps back and forth like the voltage is changing when the engine is running.

Can I add a capacitor or something to smooth out the voltage to keep it from jumping around? It works fine it just bugs me. Any help would be appreciated.
