68 camaro generator light stuck on

What could cause my generator light to stay on? Everything seems fine?

Re: 68 camaro generator light stuck on

To light a bulb, you need power on one side and ground on the other. 12v is supplied to one side of the gen light by the ignition switch. The other side is normally supplied with 12v by the alternator/regulator if (and only if) the alternator is charging. 12v on both sides = no light, same as ground on both sides, or either side open (disconnected)

If the gen light is lit when the engine is running, then either:
a: The alternator is not charging
or
b: the wire that should go to the alternator does not get there, and is grounded out as well.

Re: 68 camaro generator light stuck on

Check the voltage at the battery with the car running at a fast idle, should be 14-14.5 volts. If its only 12 volts, you are just running off the battery. If you have a 1 wire alternator, disconnect the plug at the voltage regulator to make the light go out.
