Re: riddle me this (hei dist)

If this is in a first gen, run a 12 gauge wire from the BAT terminal on the HEI to the IGN terminal on the fuseblock. The wires on the wiper motor were designed to power that and nothing else.

Re: riddle me this (hei dist)

I don't think the ignition did anything to your wiper motor. The wiper motor gets power from the yellow wire and ground completes the circuit. Tapping into the yellow will not pull current through the wiper motor, but it will place additional load on the yellow wire.

Re: riddle me this (hei dist)

Check to make sure you're getting battery voltage at the yellow wire with the key on before you condemn the wiper motor. Also make sure your wiper linkage isn't jammed.

Good question. Does it still get hot with the ignition disconnected?

I just thought of something though. The yellow wire to the wiper motor is only hot in the accessory position or run. So in crank, it will be dead. Could make for some rather frustrating starting problems.

Disconnect the ignition tap and put the key in the acc position. Then wait a couple minutes and see if the wiper motor gets hot.

Cool Re: riddle me this (hei dist)

To properly wire an HEI tap into the white igition (points resitsor) wire that goes to the points at the firewall block. Solder a tap as close as possible to the firewall block. This way you get a full 12 volts, Ignition fused hot and you can convert back to original easily if you need to.
