tach wiring

On my '67, I replaced the factory dash gas gauge with a factor repo tach and put the printed circuit sheet back on. What wire do I need to run to the coil to make the tach work?

Re: tach wiring

Mine has two studs on the back of the tach. Run a wire to the neg. side of the coil and crank the engine and touch the wire to the studs and see which one makes it work. It has been a while so I can not remember which of the two it is.

Re: tach wiring

You should be able to use the tan wire that went to the fuel sender for the coil wire and the pink wire to power the tach. You can still use the same circuit board and connector. Since the tan wire goes to the back of the car along the drivers side of the floor, you would want to cut it at a convenient location near the fuse panel so you can extend the tan wire that comes from the sender to the new location of the fuel gauge. At the other end of the wire where it was cut, it needs to go through the firewall to get to the coil. That's where it will be a little more difficult. To make it look factory, you would need to use an empty cavity at the firewall bulkhead connector to install new terminals for the new coil wire.

Re: tach wiring

Okay, so I ran the tan wire to the negative side of the coil, now if I run a hot wire (pink) to one of the posts on the back of the factory repo tach, it will work? That means the other post of back of the tach has no wires running to it. Is that correct?
