Ignition switch wiring problems

Let me first state that I am a beginner when it comes to electrical wiring.

I am in the process of putting back my fully restored 68 Z28. I ran into a problem when I tried to put the ignition switch back into the dash. All of the wires except one slipped off and I can't tell how to put the others back in the right spot. I have the 68 wiring diagrams but they aren't much help. The harness is factory original but the colors don't see to correspond to the colors listed in the wiring diagram. I have the following colored wires:

Thick wires:
Brown
Red
Purple
Pink

Thin wires:
Brown with white stripe
Black
Yellow
Pink with Black stripe

The back of the ignition switch has the following descriptions:

ACC
BAT
GND
KEY +
KEY -
IGN
SOL

The thick Brown wire has pulled out of the terminal but it was attached to the ACC. The wiring diagram shows that the thin Brown with white stripe wire also attaches to this terminal. Is this correct?

Also, I believe the thick Purple wire attaches to the KEY + terminal as described in the wiring diagram. Other than that I am lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ignition switch wiring problems

See if this helps. It's the rear view of the 68 ignition switch.

Re: Ignition switch wiring problems

Thank you for the picture 69-er. It was exactly what I was looking for. One last question though, is there only one connecter to the ignition switch that contains all of the wires. I am suspicios that a former owner may have cut off this connector and replaced it with individual connectors for each wire. The individual connectors are not consistent with the way that every other switch is connected.

Yes, the ignition switch connector is a one-piece type.

Here's what it looks like.

Re: Ignition switch wiring problems

Thank you so much for all of the information Larry. You have been so helpful and I really appreciate it.

I think my best bet is to buy a new dash harness for my Camaro. I have quite a few other wires that were cut and my battery used to drain down pretty quickly in the past. I suspect there is a short somewhere.
