trying to change ignition switch

in my 69 z i'm trying to change the ignition cylinder peice with the key. I know im supposed to depress that little piece and it should pop out but i can't get it. Is there something i'm not doing ? is there an easier way to do this?

Use this dimension to locate the slot and depress the metal wedge that is part of the lock cylinder. The slot in the steering column may have a very thin skin of metal that needs to be broken out of the way.



By the way, the screwdriver is in the wrong location. It should be one slot over to the right. The 1.75 inch dimension is correct however.
