Angry ignition again

i talked with the previous owner of my 85 z28 and ask about why he put in a push button start. he told me that the ignition would work somtimes and cut out othertimes but there was power when you turned the key. car has been sitting for about one and a half years.when i bought it there was no power when you turned the key at all. i have put in a complete underdash wiring harness, steering column, and i rewired 2 red and 1purple wire that comes of the starter and the pink wire from the ignition switch to the coil and still nothing. the past owner told me that he had trouble and has replaced the n/s switch, would the n/s switch have somthig to do with it?
ps. i have replaced the ignition switch but got it at a wrecker along with the steering colmn. double checked and the wires are not hooked up wrong .
anyone with some info woud be very appreciated.

Re: ignition again

Yes, a bad n/s switch will still give you power when the key is turned on but keep the car from cranking and starting. It will sometimes start out as an intermittant problem like described.
