Headlights killing battery

I left my headlights on for no more than 10 minutes and it killed my battery. Once I jumped the started the car it ran fine and I have not had a problem starting the car. I have not used the headlights since and the battery stays charged. Could there be a ground problem causing the quick drain, what should I check first? Also my gas gauge in the gauge cluster is way off, I run out of gas at a 1/4 of a tank, this has been happening since I pulled out the gauges to replace the clear lens. The alternator and regulator are new, I also have a replacement headlight switch that I have not had time to install. Also, sometimes when I turn on the headlights the driver side doesn't come on until I wiggle the switch and turn off and on a couple times. Thanks.
