starter question

ive tried to install one of those gear reduction startrs for my sbc , but i keep running into the same problem of the starter gear hitting the flywheel and not engaging the teeth. ive used the shims etc. but always have the same results. so i have to put the stock hitork back in. the issue is im putting a higher compression engine in this weekend and im not sure the hitork will be able to handle it . any suggestions? thanks...

Re: starter question

If using shims doesn't move the starter away from the block to engage the teeth, use washers to space out the starter.

You also might try installing the starter upside down with the solenoid on the bottom.

The OE High Torque starter will work fine if the front of the starter is supported with its brace, and the cables are of sufficent wire size, as in min 1 AWG., both pos & neg.
