gas gauge

the other day i started my 1980 Camaro and the gas gauge jumped from being 3/4 full to above full and is stuck up there. what happened and how can i fix it? thanks

Most common cause... the ground wire at the tank has become corroded or broken, usually where it connects to the frame. Make sure ground wire is securely fastened to clean bare metal.
