Question RS Rear Wiring Harness

Are all 67/68/69 rear harneses the same? I need a new harness for my 68 RS and found a good deal on a 69 RS harness. Just wondering if they are the same.

Thanks for any help!

Re: RS Rear Wiring Harness

Electrically, the 68 and 69 are the same, but the bulb sockets are different. The 67 and 68's ground through the tail light housing. The 69's have a seperate ground wire that splices all tail lights together and grounds them at the truck lock support. Plus, according to the factory electrical diagrams, the 68 harness connects to the main dash harness near the fuse panel. The 69 tail light harness connects to the mid body harness above the left rear wheel well. The mid body harness then connects to the dash harness like the 67 and 68.

You could make it work with new sockets, run your own ground wires, and extend the wires all the way the the dash harness, but the aftermarket sockets that I have tried at the auto parts stores really suck. They don't stay secured in the housings very well. A lot of work, but possible.

Re: RS Rear Wiring Harness

Scott, you can buy a rear harness for around $100.00 for your car. I don't know if it would be worth the hassle of changing the sockets and redoing some of the wiring just to save money. The 69 harness is about $20 less than the 68, but would still have to be modified. I would go with the correct harness. Just my opinion.

Re: RS Rear Wiring Harness

If you are not in a hurry, you still might find a good buy for a 69 harness on eBay.
