Brake light wire- orange????

Hello-
Can someone tell me if I'm doing this right?

I am setting up a transmission with a lock-up converter from bowtie overdrives.

Directions say to locate the brake light circuit on the vehicle and connect their relay wiring harness to the orange brake light wire.

Is the orange cable located just under the steering column?

BTO says that when the brake pedal is depressed that the converter locks-up.

Am I getting this right?
Thanks

That's a strange way to lock up the converter. Anyway, the white wire going to the brake switch under the column is what you are looking for. It's the "cold" side of the brake switch. There is voltage on it when you depress the brake pedal. The orange wire to the brake switch always has voltage.

When the brake is pressed, it will UNLOCK the converter.

Re: Brake light wire- orange????

When you bought the trans did they give you a different brake switch. The last one I did came with a switch with 2 sets of contacts. One set for the brake lights and the other set to unlock the converter when the pedal was pushed. They also gave me a print on how to wire it. They might be doing it different now. This was like 3 years ago. If you need the print I can email it to you.

Re: Brake light wire- orange????

I'm sorry; yes it says it will unlock the converter.

The trans is a 2004r from Bowtie Overdrives.

Their instructions say to connect to the brake wire which is usually orange.

Re: Brake light wire- orange????

The only problem with connecting it to the orange wire is that this wire is always hot. Pushing the brake pedal would not do anything. Seems like it needs to be connected to the white wire for any voltage to be produced when the brake switch is activated.

Well Im going to state the obvious..... Call BOWTIE OVERDRIVES. I had a 200r4 before and they were very very helpful when it came down to wiring it up. I am electrically challenged and am not ashamed to admit it. Anyways, give them a call and see if they can clear it up for you.

Thumbs up Re: Brake light wire- orange????

I called BTO and they confermed that it is the white wire not the orange (which they state in their instructions to look for the orange) which confused me.
As always, thanks for the replies guys!
