Unhappy 69 Tach problem

I posted this in the wrong forum earlier. I have a 69 Camaro that was not an original tach and console gage car. I have a factory dash harness for a gage and tach car and have successfully hooked up my console gages. The tach is a different story. It is an "OER" reproduction tach When I turn the ignition on, the tach immediately pegs out to the right. Goes back to zero when ignition is turned off. I am running a HEI ignition with MSD coil and module. MSD has sent me two "filters". They get spliced into the wiring harness between the tach and the tach terminal on the HEI. The first one didn't work, the second one did. The tach has worked only twice, about 5-10 minutes of idle time. Went to start the car this week and the tach pegged out again! Has anybody run into this problem and is so what is the fix? Thanks in advance.

Re: 69 Tach problem

Is this a multiple spark ignition?
Is the tach connectewd to the correct (labelled tach) terminal on the HEI?

Re: 69 Tach problem

No, it is a stand alone HEI with the MSD internal coil and module. Yes, the tach is attached to the tach terminal.

Re: 69 Tach problem

John,

Did you use a repro tach or a stock 69 tach? Mine is a repro. I feel Steve W's pain. I got/get the same runaround trying to get an answer from just about everybody. Do you have a diagram of what you use for a filter that you can post?

Re: 69 Tach problem

I do not have a diagram anymore. There used to be a diagram in this link , https://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...ghlight=filter , maybe paulm can re-post it. If you're not confident with this stuff , just print out the link , take it to RadioShack , and have them build/solder up this filter. It is easy . My tach is an OER repop , my distributor is a large body HEI from GMPP. Good luck and post results !!!!!
