Angry 69 console gauge problems

Hello, I have been tryin to get my gauges to work for 2 days, Iam going crazy by now!!! Can anybody help?? Here we go, I do have the oil gauge working that was easy, and I have the volt meter working, The temp gauge and gas gauge are my problem! The temp will bury the needle when you turn the lights on, that is crazy to me but that's what it does! and in a few seconds the gas needle will start to move to full?? I do not have any volts back at the gas tank, I have been using a test light, to check that. Why would the headlight switch be tied into the gauges? Also when you turn the key on nothing happens at all?? Can you help!!! Jimi

Re: 69 console gauge problems

You must have tapped power from the intrument lamp circuit instead of a keyed 12V source. The way the gas gauge is working it sounds like your missing the shunt resistor on the back of the guage.

Re: 69 console gauge problems

There's a book you can get that explains everything, including a wiring diagram / schematic of the whole she-bang.....sorry for the pun....

It's P/N: GWM-79 in Rick's catalog.

Tells you exactly how to wire-up a complete console guage package, along with RS headlamp info.

Good Luck...

Unhappy Re: 69 console gauge problems

Thanks guys for the reply! I do have the shunt resistor on the temp. and gas gauge, So do you think that when I turn the lights on for the console lamps Iam sending current to the gauges?? Also is there voltage at the wire connector for the sending unit? I put my test light to it and reads nothing, Thanks Jimi
