Horn Help...

I just sent out my original Delco-Remy horns to be restored. They weren't in operating condition prior to sending them out.

Question: When I push the horn button all I hear is a clicking coming from under the hood. Is it a bad horn relay or just that the horns were bad?

Before I send out for a new one I'd like to make sure.

Thanks!

Re: Horn Help...

I just got my horn working this weekend, and when I hooked up the horn button I just heard clicking. Turns out the clicking was the relay under the dash, and the horn itself had a grounding issue. Once I fixed the ground, there were horns a plenty!

Re: Horn Help...

The relay is probably clicking and it should be mounted on the radiator support, not under the dash.

You can test them by touching the bracket to ground or neg on battery and the postive on the tab the wire connects to.

Good point, I neglected to say that I have a Painless harness and the horn relay is integrated into the harness with the fusebox.

Re: Horn Help...

Ok guys, i'm confused. I have an OEM horn relay mounted on the radiator support and that's what is clicking.

What to do?

Thanks!

It means that everything is working up to the horn relay. As you suspected your horn is probably not working, although it could turn out to be a grounding issue like I have. If you want, try grounding one contact on the horn and applying 12v to the other - no sound then the horn is bad. You can also put a multimeter on the contact coming off the horn relay going to the horn and see if you have power when you press the horn button.
