parking brake dummy light

can't seem to get this light to go out. Is this grounded through the dash cluster?

Re: parking brake dummy light

Did you try pulling the release and force the pedal up? There is a small switch on the E brake under the dash with one wire. When the switch is grounded, the brake light lights.

Yes, I fiddled around with that. Disconnected and re-connected the tan wire. I'm guessing the ground must be the same as the dash or the socket isn't in right.

Re: parking brake dummy light

There may be another wire that goes to the proportioning valve on the hydraulic brake system. If that wire is shorted to ground or if the valve is stuck it will light the brake indicator. Find the valve and pull the wire off. If the light goes out the valve is stuck.

tried that too...

What i did do is pull the bulb out of the cluster then put it back in ...light went out. However, now it won't come on when I hit the parking brake.

Re: parking brake dummy light

If you ground the wire on the e-brake switch the light should come on with the key in the run position. If it doesn't you might not have the bulb socket in the cluster properly. So you may have caused another problem rather than solving the original one. These things can be frustrating, but hang in there.
