92 Chevy Lumina Signal Switch

Sorry for the Lumina question. I cant find any good discussion sites for this. Im replacing my parents turn signal switch and I noticed the original switch has two wires that run somewhere near the ignition. Its hard to tell. The replacement switch does not have such wires. What do you suppose that is for and if its important :P

Re: 92 Chevy Lumina Signal Switch

Are they 2 small white wires?

If so, those are the Pass Key wires from the ignition lock cylinder. They are separate from the turn sig switch.

Yes, they are important. Without them the car won't crank (or start). This is a good time to check them to see if they are ready to break. (Very common).

Re: 92 Chevy Lumina Signal Switch

Well the car started fine without them hooked up. I suppose they could also be to the hazard or the horn since they both go up in the general area. I managed to pull both wires from the harness and insert them in the same holes in the new harness so they are now hooked up either way.

I hope this fixed the problem. My brother who just started driving 6 months ago was a little to agressive with the signal arm and messed them up. Ever since then if the battery would randomly die if the arm was left in the on position even with the fuse pulled. Smoke would also sometimes come from the column and appears to be a common problem with Luminas signal switches.

Guess ill find out tomorow if the battery is dead :P
