cs alternator

I have given up on my old alternator and regulator. After 2 hours in 95 degree heat, I threw in the towel. I have a cs alternator that bolts right in, only needs a small modification on the adjustment arm. So, the mechanical part is done. I have a question on wiring. I understand the 1 wire hook up but this alternator has a plug in on the side with one wire coming out. What does this wire go to? Do I need to hook it up? Still confused but this looks like the way to go in the long run.

Re: cs alternator

I may have figured this out. I have a painless wiring harness and voltmeter in the car. The current wiring from the regulator hooks up to a wire in the harness called the alternator exciter. Is it safe to assume this exciter wire, which goes to the main fuse block needs to be hooked up to the alternator as it appears to need a keyer power source?
