mystery wipers don't shut off

Does anybody have any idea why the wipers on my 69 won't shut off? I have checked the wires and the switch and they both seem to be working properly but the wipers keep going. I'm beginning to think my wiper motor had an affair with the Energizer bunny.

Your wiper motor is going bad. My 67 did this and I had to replace the motor.

It is probably your washer pump. The wipers are not supposed to stop with the washer pump on, reguardles of switch position. It is probably a mech issue with the pump, or the small cam on the wiper motor.

Re: mystery wipers don't shut off

I had the exact same problem this weekend!

undee72z, how do you trouble shoot if it is the motor or the pump? Or does it even matter cause if one is bad you have to replace both?

For a while mine had been acting funny. The wipers would shut off, but rather than stop at the bottom of the sweep, they would come back up about 1/4th the way then stop. This weekend they just kept on going.

You don't have to replace anything. There is a small cam on the wiper motor, where the washer pump connects to, it has to catch the small lever to stop the wiper motor. It is probably loose or needs to be bent some. I have a old wiper motor, Ill post some pics this weekend.
