Question Tach Install Help

I just purchaced an Autometer tach off of ebay and there were no install instructions with it. It being used I didn't really expect there to be. I knew I could count on my favorite site for help. I'm assuming that the red wire goes to a positive on the fuse block, the black grounded to the body, the green to my MSD 6AL box and not sure about the white wire. I know this an easy one for someone. Thanks for any help!

Re: Tach Install Help

White is for the dash light. This is off the Autometer website...

What Are These Colored Wires On My Tach For?

• Red = key on power supply

• Black = common chassis ground

• White = dash lighting power

• Green = tachometer signal for standard or electronic ignitions

• Yellow = used only on Internal Coil Magneto tachometers as the signal wire

• Twin Black = (looks like a lamp cord) is used on External Coil Magneto tachometers that use an inductive pick up (#5210)

• Gray = for tachometers that use a Hi/Lo shift light. When grounded, Lo shift light point is active. When ungrounded, Hi shift light point is active.

• Blue = used on Playback tachometers to start recording (see playback tachometer instructions)

Re: Tach Install Help

The colors are the same as the Sun tach's I have installed. On the Sun's the Green is longer and goes to the coil (insert MSD box here but I've never used one, check the MSD web site for more) The red is to a switched batt connection, the black is grd and the white gets spliced into the dash lights so the dimmer works on the tach light.

Re: Tach Install Help

Any gray wire you can find. With a tach, assuming mounted on the column, your shortest easiest wire run would be to the LPS terminal in the fusebox. The tach light will dim with the guages when connected there.
