Need some guidance pkease

This is way off topic for this board but I have nowhere to turn. I picked up a 1996 Mustang 5.0/5 speed for free. The problem is I can't get it to stay running. She will run with the key in the on position but once I let it go she shuts off.

Any help will be apprieciated.

Wink Re: Need some guidance pkease

If it starts and runs with the key in the 'crank' mode and then shuts down in the 'run' mode ( as I read your post ...) - then the problem is at the ignition switch or in the wiring from the switch to the dist.
During crank the power to the dist is from the starter/solenoid circuit - during run it is from the ignition switch.

Hope this helps - or one more ford is off the highway ...

LOL, the car was my cousins'. His mother wanted it out the yard so I took it. Hey, if I can clean it up, get it running I can sell it for a few bucks so I can finish my 67 camaro.

Re: Need some guidance pkease

and that would be my guess for the blue book value on a 96 mustang , at least you want to get rid of it fast and I hope we can help so you can turn that car in to Camaro bucks.
