Turn Signal Blowing Fuse

98 Camaro V6

The fuse for the turn signal just started blowing. No apparent reason.

All the other lights work fine so its confined to the T/S circuit. I replaced the fuse and the hazards work fine which suggests its not the sockets or wiring at the bulb holders.

Also took out the front bulbs and found a lot of grease in the holder. Mystery where that came from. Cleaned them up and ran a functional check and all was working. Drove off down the road and it blew a fuse at the first turn.

Does this sound like the switch?

Any advice on troubleshooting?

Re: Turn Signal Blowing Fuse

Try replacing the bulbs, sometime if they go out it will blow a fuse.if I have to take a wild guess, I'd say pull the turn signal switch and the wiring out of the column, look for some broken insulation that was grounding out a wire. Did you check the rear sockets?

Re: Turn Signal Blowing Fuse

Yes I checked all the sockets

That could explain why it only happens on the move. Maybe the vibration is causing contact?

What I don't quite follow is that the circuit is good with hazards on. Its also good when stationary and engine off. I can replace the fuse even with a 15A and it works fine. Its just when the car is moving that it blows. Whats different on the circuit when its going that would cause that? Vibration causing a short on a bad wire?

Re: Turn Signal Blowing Fuse

Well I've tied it down further

It blows when you select reverse

I had a similar problem recently with the back up lights. It was blowing the fuse when I selected reverse. I changed the sensor on the transmission and it cured it

Is the back up sensor linked to the turn signal in some way? I guess it could be another bad reverse selector sensor but still dont see the link

Turn Signal Blowing Fuse

I had a similar problem. Fuse would blow sometimes. Couldn't find a short.
Then I discovered the turn signal switch spring had broken and was sliding
around in the steering wheel and would ground out occasionally, blowing
the fuse . Hope this helps Billy
