starter wires

Hi there! Anyone have pictures of the routing of the starter wires for a '69? Especially the wires off the solenoid because its pretty close to the headers. And do I need to run my yellow wire if i'm running MSD 8360 (dist) and 8223 (coil)? Thanks again in advance. paul.

Re: starter wires

I used a type of flexible metal conduit to protect my wire from the header heat ;

Re: starter wires

This is a great picture. Do you have a shot where it's held down on the firewall. Great idea of using a metal flex tubing for the wire. Thanks paul.

Re: starter wires

Paul, I don't think at least on both of my 69's, that the starter harness runs thru the wire gutter like Jim's pic shows. Maybe different on a 68. There just not long enough. They come straight back from starter, clip to bellhousing bolt and then run over top of bellhousing and come up by wiper motor. If yours are long enough, I would run thru gutter like Jim's pic shows. I'll be under car tomorrow if you want some pics of it.

Re: starter wires

My apologies 1st. The harness does run thru the gutter like Jim's pic show. My one car didn't have the gutter but after just re-doing my Z, I was able to put it in the gutter and it fits fine. It also has a ring clip attached to the harness that mounts to the bellhousing bolt. My under car pics today really don't show anything because the headers are in the way, but here is a pic during my engine install of how I ran the wires.

Re: starter wires

I ran my starter wires through a cloth type heat sleeve I found at summit racing, they sell many different brands,it's similar to what's used on spark plug boots. I used one of their starter heat shields too.I also cut the wires about a foot back and installed a weather pack plug where it would be hidden behind the motor so I don't have to mess with those small solenoid nuts. I can just unplug the wires and they come out and go in already atached to the solenoid
