Ignition steering column diagram

I recently had one of the wires burn up in my 69 camaro .I think it is one of the ignition wires, but I'm not sure what the wire does or its color. the wires that are next to it are green, brown, red, purple, and pink. I only know that the purple wire goes to the starter, but the others I'm not sure where they go. I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace all of them, because I felt my alternator this morning ,and it was warm, so I think I might have a short some where.

Re: Ignition steering column diagram

First disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected. Melted wires are a bad thing , and thats how a fire can get started. I don't have a 69 diagram, but in later yrs there are 2 12g reds, one feeds the starter, the other everything else. Could also be a 12g orange and a 20g brown w/ white strip. Try tracing the burnt wire back to get a color. You also might want to check to see if the fusible links are in place, these protect the wiring before the fuse box, IGN switch and headlight switch.
