Question What goes here?

I took my center console (67 RS/SS 350) apart last night so I can clean and paint it and noticed that it was missing what seems to be a light or small fuse. I did a quick seach but could not find where this was discussed here.

This is the part I am holding and it goes into the hole just behind it on the center console. It connects to the fuel guage so I am guessing it is a low fuel light or maybe a fuse? A name and part number would be appreciated.

While we are at it, the light bulbs that go in this console are GE 1895. Is that still a good part number? I have read that brighter lights are available. What do you recommend?

Thanks for the help.

Re: What goes here?

That is the low fuel light system. I don't think anything goes in the slot. When I took mine apart I thought the same thing.

Re: What goes here?

OK, so the low fuel light was not designed to work on these consoles? Why is it even here? There doen't seem to be any place for the light to shine through to the front of the console that is why I thought it may be for a fuse.

Re: What goes here?

On a 69 it is designed to flash in the background of the gas gauge when it got to a certain level alerting you to look down. I thought I read somewhere that a 67 did the same thing but somewhere else.

Re: What goes here?

OK I finally found a thread by searching "low fuel module". Here is a quote from JimM

It is a black cylinder, maybe 1" in diameter and 1" long. It has a bulb socket that is not used in the camaro application, and several wires, one of which is the yellow one.

So I guess I will not be needing a bulb for this. If you are reading this, thanks Jim

Re: What goes here?

There is a low fuel warning light on your dash near the blinker light.

So this module sends power to that light but it doesn't need a light of its own to complete the circuit?

Re: What goes here?

The module actually provides a ground for the bulb in the dash, the bulb has power all the time from the instrument circuit.

The module probably originally came from a full size car that had a bulb in that opening and the whole thing fit into the back of the dash behind the low fuel warning lamp lens. GM just used what they had available when they added the console mounted fuel gauge, and low fuel warning lamp to the camaro.

Re: What goes here?

Mark and others thanks for the help. There are always so many missing parts on these cars, it seems odd when one is suppose to be missing.
