Toyota ads? What did I miss?

Where did the Toyota truck ads come from at the bottom of the posts? Did I miss the announcement that we were selling ad space to them? I don't like it.

What ads are you talking about? Can you post a screenshot? Sounds like Adware to me....

Re: Toyota ads? What did I miss?

At the bottom of the thread there is an ad for office Depot. Sometimes it's for other stuff, but it isn't always there. It says "ads by Google".

Re: Toyota ads? What did I miss?

What you are seeing is called "Ads by Google" I have only seen them on the main page https://www.camaros.net/ and in the Classifieds in a bit different format. https://www.camaros.net/classifieds/ (bottom of page on both)

The way it works is the webmaster defines the nature of the site (automotive in the case of TC) and google provides a small bit of code that you ad to the web site that will display ads to other sites with automotive content. Google tracks the hits the ads get and provides a small kick back to the site based on the number of hits or visits to the advertising sites.

I'm not a fan of advertising on the site including the sponsorships. Since it is very expensive to operate a site like this, even with individual membership contributions it's necessary. In an effort to keep Al and Dot's out of pocket expense down I support anything that helps.

After paying the wages and benefits of the US citizens building them and paying off stock dividends to US stock holders... Let's not turn this into a political debate!

To be honest, I like the sponsorship ads. I had never heard of Ground Up before I found this site, and come to find out...their prices seem generally lower than Rick's on most of the parts I've been pricing out. Plus they give a discount to paying members, so now I'll save more. When an advertisement actually reaches its target audience I'm completely cool with it. I just hope I never see an ad for free ringtones on here.

Me personally, I think I'd try to push for more of the sponsors to offer a 5 or 10% discount to Team Camaro members though, which would increase membership #'s and help considerably toward operating costs on the site.

...and for the record, I love my Toyota truck.

Oh yes indeed...I'm as confused as you think I am.
