Cool Re: Why don't we have Avatars ?

I also vote no to avatars..

Seeing Harley's mug everyday would be too much for most to handle.
(I think that's what they put in AXE body spray for men, "essence of Harley")

From a someone that posted a thread titled "Went to church and met a guy" and now you want to post so everyone can see how pretty you are... I think we can do without the avatars just to help protect you from yourself...

Jim you sell real estate in MN and drive thunder (not Van) all over the country, you're a Chicago groupie have had surgery for a deviated septum, are moving to a farm... I could go on and on... how "ananamouse" is that?

Personally my brain goes into overload with too many graphic's at a time and toss in animation and it can vapor lock on me...

If we did have avs, with this VB software you could always click the option to not view them if desired.

Personally, I like them.

Re: Why don't we have Avatars ?

You could do a avatar and just add it to each post manually, if you were so inclined. I doubt anyone would fuss much.

Re: Why don't we have Avatars ?

As a forum user yes I would like them...espec if they showed Real stuff the members car.
eg
As webserver admin...No.. on a site as huge as this...sure each avatar is only a couple kb
But add all those bits up and thats more load on server, more bw being used etc

The compromise would be only avatars that are hosted externally...hot linking
Even then many may find that the web masters of the host siites could start to query the loads and bw that these forums would be pulling from them.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: Why don't we have Avatars ?

What no one has said yet is that they slow down load time. Load a ls1tech page and then a camaros.net page and see the difference. Its kind of ridiculous. I think it also promotes are site to be more civil too as most of the avatars are boobs and arses anyway. Seeing that we're almost all guys, I don't want to see the boobs and arses you all have to offer

the learning curve is....expensive
