We only have "admin" (Al, Dennis, and Don) and "moderator" (Click, Dan, Jody, David, Joe, Bill, Jeff, and I)
Call me chopped beef
Actually, there are a couple Mods on TC that are "SuperModerators". They were upgraded because they asked for more permissions to help clean up the high level of spam we were receiving at one time. But as Jim stated, what's under our names is just a label, and even the SuperModerators, just say Moderator under their name.
A "Moderator" is just a security group name. Just like a regular user and an administrator is. You assign members to a group, then you give that group, whichever one it is, certain permissions. For example, "Regular Users" have permission to post and edit their own posts, where as a "Moderators" can post and edit anyone's posts. You can name these groups anything you want like Jim said, we could call them "Gurus" or "Idiots" or whatever instead of "Moderators"
Generally, sites assign the Moderator groups, certain permissions to certain areas of the site. On TC, each of us is in charge of certain sections. Like I'm in charge of Wheels and Tires, Bug Hunt, and Tools and Shops. So normally, I'd only have permissions to modify threads in those sections. The SuperModerator groups, if I was assigned to that group
could give me more permissions, like the ability to modify threads/posts in other sections too, if the group was given permission to do so.
Point is, "Moderator", "User", "Guru", "Idiot", "SuperModerator", "Administrator", "Lifetime Member", etc, is just a name of a security group that is assigned certain permissions. Call them whatever you want, it's all about what they've been granted the rights to do by THE Administrator of the site.
Was that too much info?
