VigLink bites!

I know its just a way to monetize the site more but does EVERY hyperlink have to go through the Viglink script. It slows does the site quite a bit at times. I could see it for the ads but for images and sigs come on. I am a paying member and when I ponied up my coin this was not part of the deal.

Its a new revenue stream for Autoforums that has been added to Camaros.net. Have you noticed that there is auto links being created on words like ebay and walmart as they are VigLink partners (hover over the two link that were created on ebay and walmart). Also every link that you open like my sig for instance passes through the VigLink servers before going to the link, and lets just say that the speed of the passthrough is less than stellar at times

Re: VigLink bites!

When clicking on a link you can see the url goes to viglink first then to the site the link is to! They track the visits and if the site uses viglink this site is given credit for the hit. If the hosts of Bills signature links was signed up at viglink then AutoForums could make money from the link Bill has in his sig even though AF and Bills host are not affiliates. I think the mentality is track everything just in case...

Viglink says the FTC requires disclosure to the reader (the members and visitors here I guess)! Here's the Viglink disclosure page - http://www.viglink.com/policies/ftc

Viglink also has an opt out, it's on that page. After you opt out they still track the link so I'm not sure what it's good for. They still try to set cookies even though I opted out!

Want a wakeup call? Set your browser to prompt you before accepting 3rd party cookies. We all expect the sites we visit will be setting a cookie (called 1st party cookies) but wait till you see how many third party cookies a lot of sites toss at you!

Re: VigLink bites!

First use FireFox as your default browser.
Then install the FireFox add on called "No Script".
http://noscript.net/

Under options, only allow camaros.net, Google.com and Google-analytics.com (used for the search feature).

You will get no banner ads from double click, no marketing from scorecard and no viglink references. Speeds the site up quite a lot and your not really missing anything you want anyways.
