Re: Editing change
Hi Roger - the time a member is allowed to edit has just been put back in check with the way this site was for most of it's existence. After the transfer of ownership there were a lot of hands in the pie and many forums got the edit feature changed and new forums even had no restrictions at all on them.
It puts the burden on members to slow down and think about what they say before posting but it gives members reasonable time to edit a blatant mistake. In the event you don't catch a mistake within the allowed edit time you did the right thing quoting your message and saying I meant ____. It's not as clean as editing your post but it lets folks see what was initially said... If you had just gone in and edited what you said nobody that already read your post is even going to notice the edit... This way they get to see it was a typo and not someone that has misinformation.
From a moderators perspective we run into too many issues when the member can come back later and edit or even delete a post or thread. I have seen folks get information then delete leaving a the thread useless, I have seen folks post and come back after other have replied changing the initial post so it looks like folks don't know what they are saying. I have seen some get mad and try to delete or edit out every post they have made on the site and even seen a few times where unscrupulous have been caught in a lie and edited themselves to try to get out of it. The list goes on...
The bottom line is it may be a little inconvenient to a member like yourself Roger but it's a big help in keeping the site cleaned up.
