Question for Admin

I was just reading the posts in which a member asked what a good starting price was for his 69 camaro and provided an ebay link...I'm sure you know which one I am talking about.

I guess I don't understand myself what is the big deal ....and what makes the thread spam?

Many people have asked about values for their car....Is it that he provided a link to his auction....would it have been better if he had asked the same question but just attached a pic?

Are posts like his ok in the Classifide Forums....or are they frowned upon in general?

I really don't believe this guy's intention was to spam anything...maybe he made a mistake in where he posted it but....SPAM .....No!...Thats not even what spam or spamming is!

Just my 2 cents!

Re: Question for Admin

I'm not a mod or admin, but I pretty much live here, so...

Anything that is posted more than once would be considered "spamming" regardless of what it is. Many newbies do this, maybe they don't think their post will be seen, or that there is a better chance of a quick answer, or they're not sure where to put their question, so they put the same thing in 3 different forums. This is not only unnessesary (every post on this board is seen and read by hundreds the first 24 hours.) but it clogs up the works, and you get different people answering the same question in different posts.

Advertising in the tech forums is simply not done. We have the main and member classifieds for that. The only exception to that that flyes well is if a member has what the original poster needs, and that will always be a 1 liner.... I got this, pm me, or so and so has what you need... At that point these discussions go private.

It's true that many ask "what's this worth" In most cases, this would should be something that person is thinking about buying, even perhaps something the person is thinking about selling, but, in the case you looked at, since it contained a link to an existing auction that was obviously placed by the poster, it seems simply a shill to generate more traffic on the auction. After all, if you didn't have an idea what it was worth wouldn't you ask before putting the auction up?

Re: Question for Admin

There is more to the story than you and most TC folk are aware of. He posted the 4 sale items in nearly every section, thats spamming. They were removed by admin. and allowed to stay in classifieds where its intended. Some folks are always creative in edging the system with questions about value when in fact they are baiting someone to contact them to buy it, hence a 4 sale ad in sheeps clothing. Thats just my perspective but it happens alot and if we dont control it, the site loses the good TC folks that use it properly. Hope that helps.

Re: Question for Admin

Hi Rack Man - I'll try to put it in perspective. Anytime you place the same question over and over in several forums on the same board it's frowned on and in board speak is refered to as spam. The person in question did just that last night. Next the site perfers no for sale ads in the forums, we have a Classified forum and a full blown ads area for folks to sell or buy. No need to clutter the tech areas with ads.

One of the deleted posts was an ad in bench racing titled "i cant believe i'm doing this but i need the money!" and linked to an ebay auction. The post said "up for grabs" and asked about the starting price. Another was worded a bit different but had the same ebay link. As well he placed a post in the Classifieds forum where he can ask all he wants about pricing.

At this point I am just keeping the site cleaned up and even provide some explanation in a thread where it's said the site has too many rules. After that it was nothing more than a slap in the sites face for this guy to post again in bench racing and go back and porclaim that's exactly what he did!

I wasn't mean or harsh to begin with, even another user tried to explain how it works. I'm not making this an issue but the user in question is. I hope that explains it...
