Rep system??? What is that?

Edit, I see the icon, but what is the purpose?

Re: Rep system and multi quote

An admin can correct me on this, but basically you "rep" someone for giving a correct answer or good info or something like that. That way people can tell who is an oracle of knowledge or who is a nice guy etc. You can neg rep someone for giving bad advice or being an a-hole, etc. That way you can identify who is a dumb ***, misinformed, or a jerk.

On a bunch of boards it is a total joke because of immaturity and things like that, but on here I'm pretty sure it will work out great.

The Multi-Quote is neat too. Good answer Billy, you just got your first positive Rep
I haven't figured out where to see what comments folks have made in the text box yet though.

It will show up in your user CP when you get repped.

A-likea-so (check your user CP)

Also, If I remember correctly your reps carry weight. The more positives you have, the greater effect a rep from you will be worth. If you are in the red zone (more negatives than positives) your reps will not count until you redeem yourself. We are all starting so our reps will be light weight, but once people get more and more they will be more impacting.

Re: Rep system and multi quote

It would be better to see other's reps more than your own. (Besides just the negative/neutral/positive icon)

Yeah, that would make sense... but you can't erase what others write, so it would not be cool to get a nasty negative rep from someone who is abusing the system.

Re: Rep system and multi quote

i am still not getting this ,, i understand you can leave a good mark or a bad mark on someone,, but if we cant see why someone states something about another person what good is it ?? think maybe Al or someone should make a post and explain it in detail to us all,,

Re: Rep system and multi quote

Some of this is new to me as well and a lot of these settings need to be sorted out as to which groups can do what. A good rep should be viewable as otherwise it's not much value. This is along the lines of some changes we need to make to the designations of Tech Team and Senior Tech - those have been around a long time and are awarded via number of posts. New users get confused thinking that a Senior Tech is knowledgeable and in fact they could just be posting a bunch of me-too or non-tech replies.

The main goal right now was to get the upgrade complete.

Re: Rep system and multi quote

I don't think the rep system is really working. If Chris gave Bill a review of any kind it isn't showing in Bill's profile accessing it from the back room...

It's off for now to avoid any confusion until we un-confuse it.

Re: Rep system and multi quote

Thanks guys. I ran things through a few times for a trial so things would go quick. We have quite a few small code hacks that had to be re-installed and that's such a pain.

Then of course, I had one small piece of code in the wrong template and it took another hour to find it. Turns out it was messed up for a few months and I never noticed it until after the upgrade when we tested it out - unregistered users got hassled by it so I didn't know it was pooched, but I was positive it was the upgrade that screwed things up.
