69 rs-ss block number

I have this car with protect-o plate which states block #T0306HB and the block that is in the car has T0304HB. It does not have the vin# stamped on the pad. Would you say this is a replacement block, and call it the original block for this car? Did they stamp the vin# on the block in 1969? Thanks Bill

Re: 69 rs-ss block number

I guess its not beyond human error that the POP was stamped two days off, but the VIN is stamped on the block by the oil filter for 69 v8's. That will tell you for sure.

Just for laughs you might want to clean the block stamping to make sure the 4 is really a 4 and not a dirty 6 that now looks like a 4, or maybe the pop is corroded and looks like a 6 but its a 4?

But like I said human errors did crop up time to time in all the stampings on parts and the cowl tags and pop's. Since it is the engine date it also could have been a delay in getting the unit on the line when the body was ready. Funny thing is my Z11 L48 is dated T0305HA for 4 speed manual and it has no issues, so maybe there was a supply issue on the line for automatic TH350's that day?

I would run the date issue past the guys over at CRG.
