I was down to the classic Grant wheel but saw some good Momo stuff. I didnt like the idea of 2 different wood finishes in my car so I decided (or let my in laws decide since they bought it) to go with the Momo retro (birthday was last Friday). I followed the wonderful sticky up top, but really it was easier than I thought.
Took the 4 backing screws off the old wheel, popped the cover off, took off the 7/8" mounting nut. Rented a puller from Autozone and the old wheel was off in 3 minutes.
Used the Momo crushable mounting bracket (PN 2401)
Bought a new turn signal cam from summit ($9), the cam plate puller (amazon, $14) and a new horn wire ($4). My old wire looked OK but I figured for 4 might as well replace it. When I looked at the turn signal cam, mine had the lock tab in it. So I just left it alone. Someone obviously had been there since 1969. Might as well save the $25.
With the wire in place, using Momo's 'might as well be IKEA' directions, mounted the bracket and ran the wires through. for our setup a separate ground is used, which clips to the washer that goes between the mounting bracket and ring.
Mount the wheel, snap the horn into place. Everything worked the first time. Very simple. Total time was 35 minutes.
Its definitely a smaller wheel than stock. Feels so much thicker and better in the hand. Its 38* and rainy so no drives.
Also have a worn flywheel so I have to flinstone start it. Installing new flywheel and clutch this weekend.
Or should I cover the screws?
